Art deco design consisted of delighting in discoveries facilitating new levels of individual freedom. Although the products and activities infused by the spirit of that modernity did encompass social pleasures, it was the peculiar solitariness of those fortuitously endowed which lended to the works their haunting power.
By the time art deco production hit its full stride (in the 1920's) the bloom was off the poster craze and the associated published depictions of contemporary possibilities of the previous generation. For that and other reasons, the press runs of deco graphics were diminished and a great number of instant "rarities" were produced. What we introduce here, however, are among the rarest of the rare, and that includes their extraordinary level of invention.
