Published in New York City, by Brewster Publications, Shadowland attempted to make clear to the public eye that with such “entertainments” as dance performance and movies important and brave strivings were afoot. The articles were, apparently, illustrated with quality photos on appropriate paper stock. It has been remarked that the work bore some resemblance to the sophistication and wit of the New Yorker magazine in its halcyon days (the latter conveying by writing what Shadowland conveyed by visuals).
