A number of human figures in a design can accomplish wonders of dynamic intensity and incremental nuance. Whereas most vintage posters and illustrations depend heavily upon an arresting central feature (more often than not an attractive woman), the arrangements we want to explore here become all the more special for being quite rare.

The pochoir Christmas card from 1920 constituting our screen cap here seems to ally itself with theatre staging to produce a sense of an occasion touching everyone in a region. The narrowness of the avenue accentuates the flamboyant and beautiful women’s coats. And in the course of this promenade we have a vignette of a couple paying a visit to a resident. Thereby the anonymity of city life has been primed to a degree of noteworthy solicitude for strangers. There is also (as a sort of topspin to the social buzz) a process of enhancing chromatically a rather austere streetscape.

Here the links of community emphasize the new generation following faithfully in the footsteps of the old. Endeavors of charity are given an across-the-board sheen the better to emphasize that tip-top fun can penetrate into dark corners (wherever they might be). Any signs of conflictedness are swept away by the imperative to keep the season’s magic going.
The anonymous artists of the two Christmas cards expend time and effort to make their works resonate. Here one of the most famous and rewarded posterists, namely, Leonetto Cappiello, handles the idea of a brand of noodles being red-hot by drawing likenesses of Paris show-biz celebrities happily and publicly en masse carrying the product. The upshot is a street full of Belle Epoque notables looking self-important. The men come across as pretty odious stiffs; the ladies seem a bit more perceptive.
Here we go, with much more palpable feeling! Art deco swells dressed for a Venetian costume ball, suddenly forgetting all that carriage-trade fun in the presence of a Ford convertible roadster! Thinking young!
Here the Ford is in the forefront of another costume event! The revellers are more salt of the earth, not following a strict (rococo) program. Ford is thereby linked to man and woman in the street gusto.
Disparate parts of a big crowd, all bending to the same wartime effort.
Workplace exigencies streaming forth a notable low-key play into wartime high-key.
Far from the cliché of a heartless, anonymous city crowd!
Another crowd scene locked into a compelling priority. Here the factors are under the sway of a truly magical marshalling of rare talent.
Here the featured couple conspicuously stand out in this otherwise archaic crowd. And yet we thrill to how they accommodate energies that cannot be theirs!
A big gathering, all attending closely to its glamor and pretty much ignoring everyone in attendance!
